We are delighted to be welcoming Rich Wardle onto the RLSCC Committee as our Social Secretary after he volunteered at the Club AGM in October 2024. To help us all get to know a little more about Rich, and his role, he's shared a bit about himself as part of our Meet the Committee series.

Committee Position:

Social Secretary

How long have you been on the committee?

Just over three months now.

What does your role entail?

Organising social events both on and off the bike.

What is your Cycling discipline?

Mostly commuting at the moment, with a bit of road rides and the Newbold Trails chucked in for good measure.

What do you ride?

Newest bike is a Giant Defy, but also have my trusty Triban for commuting, Canyon Spectral for the trails and a Surly Long Haul Tracker for the big adventures.

How long have you been with the club?

On and off around 11 years.

What do you enjoy about the RLSCC?

The social rides and the welcoming people. I’ve made some great friends through the club.

What is your most significant cycling achievement?

When I was 25, I set myself a challenge to do a cycle tour on every continent (apart from Antarctica!), I completed this when I was 30, highlights were 4 weeks cycling down the Carreterra Austral and onwards in Patagonia, and cycling over the world’s highest road in

Northern India.

Who's is your cycling hero?

Mark Beaumont – his documentary on cycling round the world inspired me to start touring.

What is your cycling mantra?

Eat, sleep, ride, repeat.
