Alex Craig and Emile Glorieux went to Abingdon to race the third round of the ART Winter Crit Series on Saturday, the day after Storm Eunice hit the UK. So it was once again a very windy and cold day at Dalton Barracks, Abingdon Airfield.
Alex was already feeling good before the start of the race and he was not put off by the breezy conditions. He made the break that mattered at about 30min into the Cat 4 race. Initially, a group of 6 riders got away from the peloton and the next lap 3 more joined the break-away. Settled at 9, the group began rotating through-and-off full gas for the rest of the race until the last lap. In the sprint for the line, he finished just behind the top 6.
Directly from the first lap of the Cat E/1/2/3 race, there were many attacks and accelerations to break up the peloton in the cross-winds along the long straight sections of the circuit. A quarter of the riders ended up getting dropped and had to abandon the race. Emile ended up in the last group in the race and finished in 24th place.
