FRIZ HILL ROAD RACE
Supplementary Rules
1. Rider pre-race briefing (09:20) is mandatory, any riders not attending will not start.
2. This race will be held under the Technical Regulations of the British Cycling Federation
3. The safety of riders and the general public are paramount and, unless racing under full road closure, riders are required to comply with Traffic Law and Regulations and the Highway Code and obey instructions from Commissaires and Marshals. This includes if you fall behind the race convoy that you are subject to rules and regulations of the road and must give way at junctions and will not have the protection of the accredited marshals and race convoy.
4. Riding outside of your lane is discouraged in general and prohibited if this involves deliberately crossing unbroken single or double white lines or passing traffic calming bollards on the right-hand side. This is subject to commissaires ruling (who have the final decision) and may say that any crossing onto the other side of the road is prohibited.
5. Riding that endangers you, other participants within the race or members of the public will not be tolerated.
6. It is unlawful, and an offence against public decency, to urinate in public view, whether on foot or on your bicycle. Please use the facilities at the HQ before racing if needed.
7. It is illegal to drop litter. If you can get your gel out your pocket, put the wrapper back in it!
8. Junior riders in the race must report to the Commissaries before sign-on for a gearing check. You must have a top gear of 7.93 metres maximum (equates to 52 x 14). Be prepared for an additional post race check.
9. Failure to comply with any of the above regulations renders a rider liable to a fine or disqualification and/or a suspension of their Racing Licence.
10. Any protest against a penalty should be made in writing to the Chief Commissaire immediately after the race; the decision of the Chief Commissaire is then final.
11. No feeding (handing out of bottles/food from spectators) during the race. The race is not long - carry all the food and drink that you need.
12. If you are a lap down then please allow the main bunch to pass you and please do not get involved with the race to the finish.
13. Race numbers to be attached on the lower back side-by-side (jersey pockets position). The numbers are single use so feel free to fold them and no need to return them after the race.
14. If riders are dropped and passed by the commissaire's vehicle they are then out of the ‘race bubble’ and roads will not be closed for them. You must abide by normal traffic regulations. Please remember that not only does this behaviour pose a danger to riders, it also puts event volunteers and other road users at risk of harm as well as damaging the reputation of the sport in the local community.
Route
The route will be run over 9.5 laps, there will be a neutralised start from HQ to the start/finish line (approx. 2 m). The first time passing the top of Frizz Hill the lap counter will display “9 laps to go”. A bell will be used to signal 1 lap to go until the finish.
Each lap is relatively simple – after ascending Frizz Hill, turn left (1st exit at the roundabout) onto the Fosse Way. Take the first main left turning towards Moreton Morell. Pass Moreton Morrell and descend towards Wellesbourne. In Wellesbourne turn left and head back up towards Frizz Hill. Please take time to familiarise yourself with the course before racing – it’s only a 5 mile circuit so if you haven’t ridden it before we recommend turning up at least 10 minutes early to drive the circuit in advance of the race. The finish line is about 200m over the top of the climb. To help you, please find the route map below as well as the GPX file for you to download.
Unfortunately no race route is perfect and we’ve done our very best to come up with a challenging course that is as safe as possible but inevitably there are always things to look out for such as:

Potholes; once you turn onto Fosse Way (as you exit the roundabout they’re on the inside)

Potholes; in the road as you turn left off the Fosse Way and towards Moreton Morell

2 man hole covers; towards Moreton Morell on the Wellsbourne road
These hazards will be highlighted on the day.
Route
Chip Timing / Numbers
This year we are pleased to say we have chip timing provided by Simon Fielding of Wolverhampton Wheelers. Timing will be published to BC and velouk.net. We will have a photo of the top 10 etc. but we wont have any printouts on the day.
Please ensure you return the chip at the end of the race in return for your BC card.
Spectators
Please do not park cars at the top of Frizz hill, the land and entrances belong to the local Farmers and due to complaints in previous years there will be no parking 200-400 m from the finish of the climb. There will be marshals on the day who may ask you to move your car if it is in the way.
The best way to get to the top of the hill to watch the finish is on foot or by bike.

King of the Mountain
The KOM competition will be taken as primes when riders cross the line with 7, 5 and 3 laps to go at the finish line at the top of Frizz Hill. Points will be awarded for the top 3 riders over the line on each of these laps. A whistle will be blown the laps before the primes (8, 6 and 4 laps to go).

Race Headquarters

Parking at HQ is on a first come first served basis as there are only limited places. If the car park is full please park nearby but as always respect any and all rules and regulations (no parking on double yellows, pavements etc). We also ask that you respect local residents and ensure you are not blocking any driveways or entrance/exits. There are parking spaces opposite HQ which can be used. Please do not block any race or convoy cars and do not park on the road on the way to the course.
The village hall will have toilet facilities and somewhere to change. There are sadly no showers available.

GMS Training will be following behind the race in event of any incident with a Paramedic and a first responder.

Neutral Service
There will be no neutral service at the event. If you have any mechanical issues while out on course then unfortunately you will be required to withdraw from the race. The course surface of the race should mean that risk is minimal so long as you have a good setup and well-maintained bike!
