Sun 16th July
37th Annual Napton Cycle Ride – 16th July 2017
RLSCC are proud to be supporting this excellent local family-orientated event.
What is it?
It’s leisurely ride through 18 miles of Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire countryside, taking in pubs and Claydon Church Hall for ice creams and tea /coffee.
It is suitable for 7-year-olds and over. The less energetic can double back at the middle of a figure of eight track, doing only nine miles instead of the full 18.
For the more energetic there is the 72K challenge: A 72km ride through Warwickshire’s finest lanes. This route features two stiff climbs. The route will be available as route instructions/map on the day and as a downloadable gpx file.
So, what’s its aim?
Aside from a great social event out in the sun, the event is run in aid of charity – the charities this year are St Lawrence Church, plus our chosen charity this year is 'The Addingtonton Fund'.
The Addington Fund is a registered farming charity based in Barford, Warwickshire, and the main area of work is to provide homes for farming families living in England and Wales who have to leave the industry, through no fault of their own, and by doing so will lose their home. http://www.addingtonfund.org.uk/
Tell me more
We'll be cooking bacon butties on the green again this year from 10am and will have our pop up bar 'The Chain and Sprocket' open too. Red Banger will be supporting with burger and sausages from about midday and Buffalo ice-creams will be available as well.
St Lawrence Church will be providing lighter refreshments, tea, coffee and cakes. Of course our big BBQ will be available to cook your own! Music is currently being arranged so you can relax after the ride with some fantastic artists playing.
How are RLSCC involved?
The Napton ride has strong support of RLSCC (Royal Leamington Spa Cycling Club) and we’ll be helping with minor repairs on the day in return for donations, as this will go towards the charity too, so dig deep! We’ll bring our gazebo and flags as usual, and it would be great to have some more hands-on-deck to help with any maintenance requests (tends to be tube swapping and gear tweaks) before the event starts, and generally representing the club – so you’ll still be able to ride the event too. Please let Andy Robson know if you can help out in any way, or would like any more info. (email firstname.lastname@example.org)
We’ve had riders going along to this event for several years now and it’s run completely in the spirit of RLSCC – a bunch of like-minded people going for a ride on quiet traffic-free lanes, having a tactical tea, coffee and cake stop (or beers for the brave) and a post-ride BBQ. What’s not to like?
What else is happening?
We'll be holding the children's ride as usual round the green and presentation at the Victory club.
St Lawrence School will be helping us too with our sticker competition – a new design of sticker will be used for this year themed on all thing rural related to our charity, and every rider that finishes should return to the registration tent where they can collect one.
There will be the usual two main rides again this year, no significant changes with the usual stop offs at ' Plough Inn Boddington', 'The The Carpenters Arms' Claydon cake stop,' The Hollybush Inn' who are having a BBQ on the day, Napton Victory Club'
So what do I do?
Please get in touch if you are able to help out in any capacity on the day – your help will be much appreciated both by the club, and by the Napton cycle ride team. And if you’ve not already got the date in the diary, do it now! – 16th July 2017. Find out more at https://www.facebook.com/NaptonCycleRide/
