Thursday Night XC Rides

Meet at the Giant Brand Store at 6:30pm for 6:45pm depart.

10-12 mph, 10-15 miles (on average)

RLS CC have a dedicated army of cross country / mountain bikers heading out every Thursday. The routes are relaxed at a social pace and reasonable distance accross scenic Warwickshire. We encourage riders of all abilities to join us on these rides, we also post the routes and more information on our Facebook page.  The ride often finishes at a local pub (the club has locks stationed at many of these already for us to use) if you fancy a post-ride lime soda*.

*other beverages are available.

Ensure to bring your lights in winter months.

Thursday XC Golden Rules

The Thursday night XC rides are a great way to meet like minded mountain bikers, get to know local trails and arrange to meet up for even more rides!  Such is the popularity, we regularly have around 20+ riders each week.  The philosophy remains the same regardless of the ability or number of riders; this is a social ride where we stick together as a group, which is paced to suit anybody who joins us on the night.  To enable us to do this, there are a few simple pointers to follow which help keep people safe, and ensure that everyone gets as much out of the ride as possible:

Ride navigators will....

  • always do a head count before setting off and keep track of all riders during the ride.
  • make sure they have parent/guardian contact details for any U18 riders before the ride starts.
  • always have 2 people who know the route, one leading and one playing sweeper, with both carrying a club 2-way radio if possible.
  • re-group regularly to check how everyone is coping, and adjust pace according to the slowest rider.

And all the group members will...

  • pace to the slowest rider.  Ride steadily as a pack in favour of ‘sprint and re-group’.
  • never have less than three riders together if the pack gets strung out.
  • tell the ride leader if anyone wants to break off the front on the ‘fun bits’. Always check the route first and go no further than the next junction before waiting to re-group.
  • watch each other safely across major roads.
  • only leave the ride early after telling the ride leader personally, and then leave at least in pairs if possible.
  • hold gates for the rest of the group if you are the first one there.
