Sessions are run every week (during term time) and aim to offer the riders a chance to develop their skills and techniques, meet other riders and have fun. The sessions are based on ability of the individual rider and will ensure that no matter what level your child is at there is something within the sessions they can come along and enjoy doing. We do have a minimum age requirement of 4 year old for your child to participate.
Within the sessions we will introduce the riders to a variety of cycling discipline techniques and encourage them to develop into different areas of cycling as a sport. Sessions are aimed at the under 16's, however if you are an adult looking for coaching please contact us, we will always look to assist.
RLS Cycling Club actively encourage riders to participate in local events. In the past we have had a team of Under 9's competing in the off road Summer Classic MTB race at Cannock Chase and also a team of Peddlamaniacs taking part in Cyclocross and MTB racing over at Adventure Sports in Warwick. With Specific off road coaching sessions beforehand enabled the riders to gain the skills they needed to confidently take part in the events.
RLS Cycling Club is a registered British Cycling Go Ride club and all sessions take place under the Go Ride club status. We would like to introduce riders to the elements of Go Ride Racing too and this is something that the coaching team at RLSCC are currently working on - watch this space for more details on this. Please find info here on British Cycling’s Go Ride Programme for young people
Pre Peddlas - 9.30-10.15am
These sessions are aimed at children age 4+ that are not yet pedalling independently. The sessions aim is to give the children the balance and skills to progress to pedalling. Using activities and games that will increase balance and control/handling of his/her bike.
Children can take part in these sessions with a balance bike or the use of their own two wheeled bike without pedals. (We can help you remove pedals from your child’s bike if needed)
There is no maximum age limit to the session for people wanting to learn to ride and groups are based on level of individual’s ability.
Peddlamaniacs - 10.30-11.30am
This is intended for children that are able to pedal and want to develop their cycling skills. The sessions are varied and typically involve fundamental cycling techniques learnt through a series of games and activities that will increase the riders bike handling skills and also confidence. The groups are based on ability and kids of all ages are welcome to join the group.
Sessions for both pre peddlas and peddlamaniacs take place every Saturday morning during term time only
PLEASE NOTE SESSIONS WILL TAKE PLACE IN WET WEATHER AND WILL ONLY BE CANCELLED IF IT’S ICY OR DANGEROUS FOR RIDERS TO PARTICIPATE - PLEASE DRESS YOUR CHILD APPROPRIATELY FOR INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS
Cancellation of a session will be notified to parents via E-mail & Text Message, with updates "Time Permitting" on the RLSCC Homepage. We will also communicate via our Twitter Account: @CoachesRLSCC
Sessions are held every Saturday at Ridgeway School, Warwick
For both the sessions your child will need a bike (in good working order) a helmet, suitable clothing (weather dependant) and a drink.
Sessions last for 45 minutes and 1 hour as above, and are bookable in advance to secure a place. The price is £15 per term and payable in advance.
If you are enrolling your child for the first time the £15 fee will secure your child’s place and also give him/her free membership to RLSCC.
Places are limited and on a first come first serve basis. To Book your child on the course please email Paul (Club Coach/Rider Development) Coaching@rlscyclingclub.com A rider consent form will need to be completed prior to the rider taking part.
Should you be interested in coaching at Peddlamaniacs, please contact Paul for an informal discussion.
Hi - as most of you are aware we offer cycle coaching at RLSCC through Peddlamaniacs that is run on Saturday mornings - we could really do with some support on Saturdays either from an Administration/General help perspective, but do you also have a desire to become a qualified level 2 Cycle Coach and deliver sessions. Your commitment to support is needed on a regular basis.
